Finding the Perfect Baby Stroller: Your Essential Guide

Buying Guide

What Types of Strollers Are Available?

Strollers come in various styles to suit different needs:

Standard (Full-Size) Strollers: Great for everyday use, with sturdy frames and ample storage.
Lightweight (Travel) Strollers: Ideal for quick errands or travel, offering portability and convenience.
Jogging Strollers: Designed for active parents, these strollers have durable wheels and enhanced suspension for smooth rides.
Travel Systems: Combine a stroller and car seat in a bundle, often offering cost savings by packaging both items together.
Double Strollers: Perfect for parents with twins or siblings close in age. Some models, like the popular UPPAbaby Vista V3, start as single strollers but can convert into a tandem stroller by adding a second seat. Other double strollers are exclusively designed for two children and must always be used as doubles. Double strollers typically come in two configurations: side-by-side or tandem (one seat in front of the other).

What Features Should I Look for in a Stroller?

When shopping for a stroller, consider the following:

Safety: All strollers sold on our website are Health Canada-approved, so you can shop with peace of mind.
Comfort: Some strollers include infant inserts to provide extra cushioning for newborns, while others may require you to purchase these separately. Look for padded seats, adjustable recline options, and suspension systems for a smoother ride. Strollers with flat recline options are ideal for newborns or for older children who may want to nap.
Maneuverability: Swivel wheels make navigation easier, especially in tight spaces. Some strollers have locking front wheels for better handling on rougher terrain. Larger strollers may be more challenging to maneuver due to their size.
Storage: A spacious basket beneath the seat can hold diaper bags, snacks, toys, and other essentials, making outings hassle-free.
Foldability: Compact folding mechanisms are essential for easy transport and storage. Some strollers, like the Nuna Mixx, feature innovative designs such as the ability to be pulled like luggage when folded.

How Do I Choose the Right Stroller for My Lifestyle?

The best stroller depends on your daily routine:

For city dwellers, lightweight, compact strollers may be ideal—especially if you live in a walk-up or take public transit often.
If you love outdoor adventures, jogging strollers with all-terrain wheels are a great choice. These strollers handle snow well but tend to be heavier and bulkier than everyday models.
Urban families may prefer a full-size stroller that offers a balance of compact foldability and versatile features for family outings and errands.
Families on a budget should explore travel systems, which combine a stroller and car seat at a lower cost than buying each separately.

When Is the Best Time to Buy a Stroller?

Many parents purchase a stroller before their baby arrives to ensure they’re ready for those first outings. We recommend buying at least two months before your baby’s due date to allow time for pre-orders or reservations if your chosen model is unavailable. Keep an eye out for sales or promotions for the best value. You can contact us via the form below, email us at info@goldtex.ca, or call 514-365-9699.

How Much Should I Spend on a Stroller?

Strollers range from budget-friendly options to luxury models. Decide on a budget that fits your family’s needs and prioritize the features that matter most. Budget-conscious parents should consider travel systems, which typically range from $400 and up and include both a stroller and a car seat, offering excellent value. Remember, a quality stroller is an investment in your baby’s safety and comfort.

What Should I Consider About Car Seat Compatibility?

If you’ve already chosen an infant car seat, check the compatibility list to ensure the car seat works with your stroller. We generally recommend purchasing a car seat and stroller from the same brand for seamless integration—often without additional adapters and in a less bulky configuration. However, there are exceptions, and some families prefer to mix and match brands to suit their specific needs.

If you already have a stroller in mind, verify which car seats are compatible with it. Sticking with the same brand is often the easiest solution, but a combination of different brands might work better for your situation. Feel free to reach out to us if you have questions about compatibility.
