Goldtex Blog Post - How to Find the Proper Shoe Size for Your Little OneTo measure your child's feet for choosing correct shoe sizing is a frequent question asked by new parents. Since children experience frequent frowth spurts, mesuring correctly is important to ensure your chils is wearing comfortable and safe shoe size for them.
Here are some steps to take to measure your child's feet for shoes.

Have your child to stand up for the most accurate feet measurements

Make sure that their feet are flat and their toes are extended straight out

  • Make sure your child is wearing socks considering your child will always be wearing socks with their shoes

Using a ruler, measure both of your toddler's feet from the heel to the top of their big toe

  • Mesure both feet and select the larger one (since each foot usually varies in size)
  • Add up 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) to 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) to the measurement to account for growth spurts.
  • Use that measurement to determine the correct shoe size

Use your thumb to determine if your child's big toe is bumping against the end of the inside of the shoe

  • Verify with your thumb when your child is standing up
  • Always allow for about 1/2 inch (1.27 cm) between their toe and the end of the shoe

Ask your child to walk in the shoes  and watch the heel

  • If the heel is loose and slips up and down, the shoes may cause blisters

Online Shopping - The Tracing Method

People are shopping more and more online our days, so here are some tips to get the right shoe size for your child.

Verify the brand's sizing charts. Each brands has is own chart and can be slightly diffrent from one another. Find the mesument chart and print it out!

Next step is the tracing method.

Here’s what you do:

  • Trace the feet: Have your child stand on a piece of paper on a hard, non-carpeted floor or on a hard clipboard. Make them stand against a wall with their back straight. Use a washable marker or pencil and trace the outline of the feet — keep the marker at an upright angle for best results
  • Measure the length: Have your child step away from the paper. Measure the length from the heel to the tallest point on the tallest toe. Write it down on a piece of paper.
  • Measure the width: Grab the ribbon and wrap it around the broadest part of your child’s foot. Mark where the end of the ribbon touches. The Width of the foot is the mesure from the end of the ribbon to the mark you made. Note it down as well.
  • Find the size: Once you’ve got your measurements, use your guide to find the appropriate size according to the brand you are planning to purchase or using a general sizing chart.
